Many sites offer free software to download. Some offer features that I would use, but I fear that may contain spyware / adware. Most of them have a privacy policy and claim that their software contains no spyware / adware. Should I trust them? What makes you decide whether to download a free software?

I use a free program called Ad-Aware to scan for spyware / adware and it allows me to remove them. It will be the best. So, I'm not afraid of this software.
The only thing is that I am not sure if Ad-Aware scans themselves. Just joking!
